Pyraminx Notation

by Luke Terzich 02 Nov 2024

In cubing, "notation" refers to the system of symbols and letters used to describe moves on a cube. It allows cubers to follow along with "algorithms" (a sequence of moves that are required for switching specific pieces on a cube). Here’s an overview of the basic Pyraminx notation:

Notation Examples

  • L' B U' B R' U R U B' R' L' u' b l : This notation represents a sequence of moves for algorithms commonly used in solving.

B and b Moves

  • In Pyraminx algorithms and scrambles you will also see B and b (along with B' and b'). These are hard to represent in images as the tip/back half of the Pyraminx is hidden. Simple rotate the tip (b) or back part (B) of the Pyraminx either clockwise or anti-clockwise (B or B' or b or b').
